Public House

2010. Balsa wood, colour prints, copper wire, steel bar.

[each: l:15, w:20, h:25cm]

Two doorways from the same building – the once derelict Snipe Pub on Carden Avenue, Brighton. Each of the two doorways has a year carved above its threshold, 1937 and 1950, alluding to events in the district’s history.

The two images are dispayed as colour printouts on a balsa framework, as if they were fragments of a tiny stage set. Either a temporary façade or structural falsework, these allude to the constant reinvention of a city.
