Tom Harrup graduated with an MFA from the Glasgow School of Art in 2010. He has continued his practice at Glasgow Sculpture Studios. He maintains an individual practice, and also collaborates with Deniz Üster on hybrid projects. An intrigue into the topographical layering of cities such as Glasgow, and previously of Cardiff, Leeds and Brighton, and his experiences in Cappadocia, Turkey, have given importance to an awareness of place and duration, and of sensing the 'unseen'. Flat plaster shapes are accumulated to create depth and conceal interior space; tables and doors are inverted and revealed; light is projected across subterranean tunnels; waste products, such as horse dung, are remolded into bodily valves and organs; obsolete technology is recalled and imaginary technology is created. ![]() Cappadocia, Turkey ![]() Glasgow Botanic Gardens Underground |
